Symbols are the most commonly used form of visual communication that Parks Canada uses throughout their sites.

In building new symbols, they must meet the
Parks Canada symbol specifications and match
the already existing symbol set by Parks Canada. Before a symbol is used within the sites of Parks Canada, the symbols are tested. Jennifer Stevens, my supervising designer and myself handed out over 300 symbol testing booklets in PEI. The symbol comprehensive test booklets were then compiled into an excel spread sheet that showed the success or fail percentage of each symbol tested.
